This is indeed a great performance that we don’t normally see in a talent search like this. It seemed boring at first, seeing the girl leap like a little ballerina. It was nothing special. I thought she would only be doing a ballet routine as her talent, but to everybody’s surprise, there was something special that she was saving for last.
10-year-old Hollie Steel shocked everyone in the auditorium with her outstanding talent in singing. Everybody thought that she would only be dancing and Simon was about to gesture to make her stop, but Hollie began to release what she had been saving – her beautiful operatic voice. It’s not that full yet, but wait till she matures. Astonished by what he heard, Simon seemed to change his aura, from being dissatisfied to being interested. You could see it in his face and so with the other judges’ too.
Hollie has an impressive voice quality. Having heard her sing, I felt like I was listening to a character in a musical. That’s how her voice sounded like. At her young age, she could control her voice to make it sound similar to that of a classical soprano singer and she did it very well. Her performance was truly amazing.
It has always been a big plus for contestants to have an element of surprise to show everyone, especially to the judges. It tends to elevate everybody’s level of amazement towards you which I believe is the whole point of presenting a performance because that’s how you’re graded. Hollie Steel has got that because it’s very rare for children at a young age to sing classical. It’s something that you don’t easily learn in a short time. So, to you Hollie, Godspeed.
